Michael Glaser's Favorite Links - Hermit Crabs, Ocean Science & Writing

A few favorite links

There are many wonderful websites about life in the ocean,
and even more terrific sites about children's books!
Here are just a few of my favorite places to visit.

Ocean Life

Hermit Crab Websites:
Vanessa's Crabarium

This is an excellent site with accurate and useful information about caring for the land hermit crabs found in pet stores. A wealth of great information on housing, temperature, food and just about anything you need to know to keep your animal healthy. Also many good descriptions and photos of land hermit crabs in many parts of the world, as well as some information on hermit crab biology. Lesson plans for the classroom too! I can't say enough about this great site!

Ocean Hermit Crabs

British Marine Life Study Society
Good information about the marine hermit crabs and other crustaceans of Britain.  Much of it applies to hermit crabs everywhere.

Waikiki Aquarium

Marine hermit crabs of Hawaii. Good information and pictures too.  A good site to learn about many of the sea animals of Hawaii.

Ocean Link
Hermit crabs of the northern Pacific coast of North America.

The Writing Life

About Children's Books

The Purple Crayon

Terrific information about writing, illustrating and publishing children's books.  If you are interested in the business of publishing, this website by a children's book editor is a great place to start.

Smartwriters.com - "For everyone who writes, reads or teaches literature for kids."
A wonderful site full of interesting and useful information and links to many author websites. Features include author interviews, helpful articles, a directory of publishers, book reviews, contests and lots more.

Jan Fields - Jan's World of Writing -
Jan Fields is an author of books for children and children's writers. Her site includes a wonderfully helpful monthly column and guide to children's writing.

Verla Kay - This site by an experienced children's book author has an incredible amount of useful, necessary and well-organized information for both beginning and experienced children's writers.
